MEIJI-TAISHO
GOROSABURO YELLOW BRONZE BRAZIER
Hibachi or brazier in a binkake style, of cast and cold-chiseled sentoku bronze. Signed on the reverse with a chiseled seal form signature, Gorosaburo. With the tomobako or original box, the interior of the lid inscribed: Okarado Fukusa Kake Shiki Binkake or Brazier for a Single Teapot in the Style of a Draped Fukusa Gift Cover Made of Yellow Bronze, and signed and sealed: Kanaya Gorosaburo (the tenth or eleventh generation master of the Kanaya Gorosaburo family of Kyoto bronze casters). Taisho Era, circa 1912 – 1926.
Okarado or Yellow Chinese Bronze is a more formal term for sentoku bronze. The crystalline structure and color of the sentoku bronze set off the elegant simplicity of the brazier’s form.
