YATSUSHIRO WARE OCTAGONAL KOTOBUKI TOKKURI
Yatsushiro Ware stoneware tokkuri or sake bottle in an octagonal faceted form, slip inlaid with playful variations on the character for Kotobuki or Congratulations and Long Life. The base is impressed with four shell form spurs resulting from firing on scallop shell supports in the kiln. Mid Edo Period, circa 1750. Note: small lacquer repair to edge of mouth on one side.
An early and very strong piece of Yatsushiro Ware.
