SENCHA TRAY IN THE FORM OF A TATTERED WINNOWING BASKET

Tray in the form of a tattered woven winnowing tray, carved of maebudo or burled grape wood. Late Meiji – Taisho era, circa 1900 – 1926.

These carved wood trays in the form of dilapidated woven farm baskets were made by one sencha studio in Osaka. Though bearing a family resemblance to one another, no two are alike.
