KITAGAWA HOKUSEN, INLAID BRONZE OKIMONO OF A PUPPY PLAYING WITH A KITE

Okimono or sculpture in the form of a puppy playing with a broken kite. Of cast and cold-chiseled red and brown bronze, inlaid with gold, silver and shakudo. Signed on the base with an incised signature by the artist: Hokusen, and with a kao (Kitagawa Hokusen, 1846 – 1923). Late Meiji era, circa 1890 – 1912.

With a new, paulownia wood storage box.

Kitagawa Hokusen lived in Mito and studied metal arts under Sekijoken Motozane. Later he taught at the Tokyo Fine Arts School.
