Suiseki or scholar’s stone in the form of a mountain peak with snowy seams, the origin of waterfalls, rising from a collar of clouds. Of Furuya type, grey-black stone with white quartz inclusions; on a finely carved and polished rosewood stand. Taisho era, circa 1912 – 1926.

With a period, collector’s box, inscribed with the mountain stone’s title: Yamatogawa or Yamato River, then signed by the collector: Sekijo, and sealed twice.

Seen from afar, the threaded falls forming the wellsprings of the Yamatogawa gleam through the clouds. The Yamatogawa eventually runs through Osaka to the sea.
