The tomobako or original box, inscribed on the exterior of the lid: Wajima Nuri, Hinode Nuri Hibachi Ittsui or Wajima Lacquer, A Pair of Rising Sun Braziers; and on the reverse of the lid signed: Wajima Shiota Masa Shoten Sei or Made by Shiota Masa Studio of Wajima, and sealed: Shiota Masa Sei or Made by Shiota Masa.

Strikingly modern in feeling, these beautifully made hibachi actually represent a strong nationalistic sentiment. The design echoes the rising sun of the Imperial Japanese flag.
