MID-CENTURY SHIBUICHI VASE BY TADAKORO SHIGEO

Vase in a curving, abstract form rising in two triangular horns. Of cast shibuichi inlaid with crisscrossing silver lines. Signed on the reverse with a chiseled signature by the artist: Shigeo Saku or Made by Shigeo (Tadokoro Shigeo, born 1928). Showa era, circa 1957 – 1958.

With the tomobako or original box, inscribed on the exterior of the lid: Chūdo Kaki or Cast Bronze Vase; and on the reverse of the lid signed: Tadokoro Shigeo Saku or Made by Tadokoro Shigeo, and sealed.

Tadokoro Shigeo graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and lived in Tokyo. He exhibited frequently at the Nitten.

In 1957, Shigeo exhibited a very similar vase at the Nitten. For a comparison, c.f. the Nittenshi, volume 20, page 285, number 188.
