KISHIZAWA TAKEO, CURLING SHELL, BRONZE VASE

Vase in the form of a stylized elongated and curling shell, of cast bronze. Signed on the reverse with a chiseled signature by the artist: Takeo Saku or Made by Takeo (Kishizawa Takeo, active mid-20th century). Showa era, circa 1950 – 1960.

Kishizawa Takeo graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, and worked in Toda City in Saitama Prefecture. From 1947 onwards a frequent exhibitor at the Nitten, Kishizawa Takeo was also honored as a Councilor of the Nitten. His work was awarded the Asakura Prize.

Echoing the form of a shell, Kishizawa Takeo created a sculpture for flowers at once abstract and sensual, elegant and intimate.
